James P. Witherspoon

I was born in the rural section of Maury County south of Nashville, Tennessee. I am the youngest of eight children born to Elizabeth Hill Witherspoon and Will Witherspoon.

My love of music came from attending church where my uncle Andrew Witherspoon was the minister. The church had all types of musical instruments and I loved the sound of the saxophone. I learned to play years later in the military when I met a friend who gave me lessons. I have been playing now for a number of years.

During my years in the military I had the privilege of performing with well known artists such as Bobby Blue Bland, Sam and Dave, and the late great Johnny Guitar Watson.

I have since retired from the military and reside in Clarksville TN where I currently perform with the Variety Pack Band. We recently released a new CD called The Blues Healen.
